Dear Delegates,
The 33rd Road Conference, taking place on 20–21 October 2026, will offer a comprehensive programme focused on current topics in road infrastructure, transportation, construction, road management and maintenance. Over the coming weeks, we will gradually introduce the individual programme sections. We begin with the Plenary Session, which will officially open the conference.
The Plenary Session will bring together leading representatives of the Czech and international road community, government authorities, professional organisations and key institutions active in the field of transport. The programme will include opening addresses by representatives of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic, the City of Prague, the Central Bohemian Region, the Subcommittee on Transport of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, the World Road Association (PIARC) and other conference partners.
A major highlight of the programme will be the participation of the leadership of the World Road Association (PIARC) and the Czech National Committee of PIARC, including PIARC President Emanuela Stocchi and Chairman of the Czech National Committee of PIARC Václav Neuvirt. Participants will also receive an update on preparations for the World Road Congress 2027, which will be held in Vancouver, Canada.
As a traditional part of the Plenary Session, the Czech Road Society Awards will be presented, together with awards for the best doctoral dissertations of 2026 and the announcement of the 2025 Article of the Year published in the journal Silniční obzor. The programme will also feature the launch of a new publication by the Czech Road Society dedicated to the history of the World Road Congresses and their impact on developments in the Czech Republic.
A significant part of the session will be devoted to an international expert panel discussion involving specialists from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Germany and Italy. The discussion will focus on current challenges facing transport infrastructure and will also provide an opportunity for award-winning doctoral researchers to share their perspectives on the future of the sector.
The Plenary Session will conclude with presentations by two key figures in Czech transport infrastructure. Zbyněk Hořelica, Director of the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure, will present current priorities in transport infrastructure financing, while Radek Mátl, Director General of the Road and Motorway Directorate of the Czech Republic, will provide an overview of the current status and future development of the Czech road and motorway network.
For the convenience of all participants, the entire Plenary Session will be supported by simultaneous interpretation between Czech, English and Polish.
